| Granny’s pool. We scrubbed it every spring with brushes and brooms, then filled it with a garden hose. Took a couple days and the water was COLD. And unfiltered. No chemicals. I got several ear infections every summer. They drained it midsummer most years, scrubbed and refilled. We had ice cream parties when the pool was filled. Then polio came. Not many swim years after that. In the fall Granny raked her leaves into the pool and burned them. Fire Department always came because fire always got out of hand. Firemen said, “Mrs. Pannill, just call us when you want to burn your leaves. “ |
